You love your dog and don't want anything to hurt him/her. There are some things your dog should never eat.

Some foods which are edible for humans, and even other species of animals, can pose hazards for dogs because of their different metabolism. Some may cause only mild digestive upsets, whereas, others can cause severe illness, and even death.

Some of the dangerous foods for dogs include:

Chocolate, Coffee, Tea, and other caffeine
Grapes and Raisins
Mushrooms
Onions and Garlic
Raw Eggs
Raw Fish
Sugary Foods
Bones from Fish or Poultry
Tobacco
Tomatoes
Avocados
Nutmeg
Apples, Cherries, Peaches and similar fruit are great for your dog - HOWEVER, the seeds of these fruits contain cyanide
Macadamia Nuts and Walnuts
Fatty Foods

There are also some problems with a lot of commercial dog food. Many pet food companies use 'rendered' meat by-products. That means the 'meat' comes from dead and sometimes diseased animals. Many dogs, cats, and horses end up in rendering plants when they die and some dogs and cats still have their flea collars on when they are 'processed' for pet food products. Check the labels. What do you do if your pet ate something poisonous?

If your animal is having seizures or losing consciousness, bring him or her to your veterinarian or emergency vet center. If your pet is not showing symptoms, but ingested something potentially toxic, call the ASPCA hotline at (888) 426-4435. Have the following information available: the species, breed, age, sex, weight, and information about the product exposure. It is best to have the package of the product available for reference.
